QUESTION & ANSWER WITH KURT ABOUT THE UPCOMING STUDIO ALBUM
4/13/2004

Q: Can you talk a little bit about about the new studio recordings?

Kurt: Well, we are taking a different approach with it. We're kind of doing it one song at a time instead of a big batch. And we are going for a little bit more of an R&B flavor, and at the same time a little bit more acoustic. I think, like every album, we keep getting better at recording our stuff. And I think we get better at finding ways to represent the songs. This one will probably be the best at that so far. And hopefully I will feel the same way about the next one.

Q: How are your recording methods different on this album?

Kurt: Usually what we do is go in and record the bass and the drum tracks in one day with me playing along. Then we overdub the guitars, we overdub the vocals, then the bass, the keyboards, percussion, and so on. This time, though,we are doing one song at a time, doing it more as a group. Not necessarily a live thing, but more together on each song. It's not like an assembly line album, we're very focused on just one song at a time. So far we only have a couple of songs tracked, but the end result has been more than I could have hoped for. It's turning out really well.

Q: What songs have you worked on?

Kurt: We've done, "I Miss You." And we have a really good start on an acoustic song called "Singing To No One" which is a song of mine that's about ten years old, that we don't ever play. So this was a perfect opportunity to squeeze it in.

Q: Any projection at all as to when the album would be finished?

Kurt: At this point, it's really more about the process. I'm not putting any time constraints on this one-- I just want to make the best album that we can. I think that our playing schedule is so busy this summer that it will probably be more like a fall release, at the latest a Christmas thing. It seems like a long ways away but the time goes by so quickly that it will be done and here before you know it.
